President Quang of Vietnam hosted a dinner in honour of President Michael D. Higgins, on the first State Visit by an Irish Head of State to Vietnam. In his speech at the event, President Michael D. Higgins spoke of the links between Ireland and Vietnam.
"We are two peoples who have been shaped by historical challenges of such similarity as gives us an instinctive understanding of one another."
