Uachtarán na hÉireann, President Michael D. Higgins hosted a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin to honour the Republic of Ireland international football squad who represented the country with such distinction at the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the team’s achievements and President Higgins welcomed members of the squad to the Áras, led by team captain Mick McCarthy. Also present was kitman Charlie O’Leary, who recently celebrated his 101st birthday.
