President Higgins welcomed H.E. André Tinoco, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Costa Rica to Áras an Uachtaráin on a courtesy call.

2025 marks 25 years of bilateral relations between Ireland and Costa Rica.

President Higgins visited Costa Rica in October 2013, on a three-country official visit which included Mexico and El Salvador. During his visit to Costa Rica, he met with then-President Laura Chinchilla, then Costa Rican Minister for the Environment, René Castro, and delivered a keynote address at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San José.
