President and Sabina Higgins hosted a special screening of An Buachaill Geal Gáireach/The Laughing Boy, written and presented by Theo Dorgan and directed by Alan Gilsenan, at Áras an Uachtaráin.
The film tells the story of Brendan Behan’s song The Laughing Boy; written in memory of Michael Collins, and it’s afterlife as the Greek anthem To Yelasto Pedi in resistance to Greece’s military dictatorship.
February, 2023 marked the 100th birthday of the birth of Brendan Behan on 9 February, 1923.
