President Higgins was bestowed the honorary title of “President of the University of Galway Literary and Debating Society” in Áras an Uachtaráin.
The Literary and Debating Society is a student society at the University of Galway. It was founded as the Literary and Scientific Society in 1846, and incorporated into the then Queen's College, Galway, in 1852.
