President lays a wreath at the Memorial to the Batallón de San Patricio, Mexico City

President Higgins began his official visit to Mexico with a wreath-laying ceremony honouring Irish men who fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American war of 1846-48.

At the ceremony in Mexico City, President Higgins paid tribute to the soldiers of the St Patrick’s Battalion/Batallón de San Patricio, who tried to protect the convent of Churubusco against the US Army.
