H.E. Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba and Mrs. Lis Cuesta Peraza undertook an Official Visit to Ireland on 21 October 2019.

The visit by President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez came in return to the State Visit to Cuba by President Michael D. Higgins in February 2017, the first State Visit by an Irish President to Latin America.

The visit commenced with a formal welcoming ceremony at Áras an Uachtaráin, followed by a meeting between both Heads of State. After the meeting, and in keeping with tradition, President Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was invited to plant a tree in the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin, as a symbol of the friendship between the two countries.

President and Mrs. Higgins hosted a luncheon at Áras an Uachtaráin in honour of the visit by President Bermúdez.
