President Higgins welcomed the family of the late Seamus Deane to Áras an Uachtaráin.
Deane’s partner Emer and son Ciarán presented the President with a copy of his book "Small World Ireland 1798-2018".
Last month, President Higgins paid tribute to Seamus Deane, saying Ireland had lost a 'foremost critic, novelist and academic' and Derry lost an 'incomparable' son in Seamus Deane.
