The President and Sabina Higgins welcomed H.E. President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to Áras an Uachtaráin for a meeting and lunch.
The two Head of States’ most recent previous meeting was during the annual meeting of the Arraiolos Group of non-executive European Presidents, which was hosted by President Rebelo de Sousa in Porto in October 2023.
President Higgins previously welcomed President Rebelo de Sousa to the Áras with a ceremonial welcome during his State Visit to Ireland in October 2022. President Rebelo de Sousa’s State Visit returned that made by President Higgins to Portugal in December 2015.
