President Higgins received Mr. Martti Ahtisaari, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Finland.
Mr. Ahtisaari was involved in a number of initiatives aimed at promoting or supporting peace processes, including in Northern Ireland in his role, with Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, inspecting weapons dumps for the Independent International Commission on Decommissioning.
