President Higgins gave an address at the 40th anniversary celebration of 'the Benson Report'.

The publication in 1979 of Ciaran Benson’s framework document, ‘The Place of the Arts in Irish Education’ prompted a discussion on the role of education in involving young people in the arts, and the report provided the first blueprint for the arts in Irish education.
 
Creativity is one of the core themes of the Presidency of Michael D. Higgins. Since his inauguration in 2011, President Higgins has spoken on numerous occasions of the importance of encouraging the development of creativity in our society.
