President Higgins visited Clifden, to unveil an art work by Maree Hensey and Mark Ryan.

The piece was placed in the grounds of Clifden Community School, which was formed following a merger of two schools run by the Franciscan Brothers and the Sister of Mercy. The school opened a new building in September 2018, and 1% of the building costs was reserved for the art project.

The President has called the school “the spiritual centre of the Clifden Arts Festival” -  the longest running community arts festival in Ireland.
