President addresses Irish Blood Transfusion Service Donor Awards Ceremony

The IBTS today (Friday) held an awards ceremony in Dublin to honour 100 time blood and platelet donors. The ceremony was attended by Uachtaran na hEireann, Michael D Higgins. The awards ceremony is on the eve of Blood for Life Week and world blood donor day which is on Tuesday 14th June. President of Ireland Michael D Higgins at the Donor Awards Ceremony held in Dublin over the weekend with blood recipient speaker Karen Morgan and 100 time blood and platelet donor Fred Strutt, Laois, Ballylynam. Karen’s son James has Shwachman –Diamond Syndrome. James is now 2 and a half, he was born at 36 weeks weighing 4lbs and has received 20 blood donations, 6 platelet donations and 2 bone marrow transplants.
