President gives the opening address at the 2016 Irish Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals

President Michael D. Higgins spoke at an NGO summit meeting in Croke Park which focused on the question of what it takes to build societies that are truly 'sustainable'.

The President spoke of the set of Global Goals for Sustainable Development, agreed by the nations of the world in 2015. Under this global agreement, the members of the UN must now develop national plans to implement the Goals.
